Voyager 1

Voyager 1 is a NASA probe exploring the region beyond the heliosphere.[2]

History

Voyager 1 lifted off in 1977, on the fifth of September.[2] It passed Jupiter in 1979 and Saturn in 1980.[2]

Findings

Thebe and Metis entered the catalog of known Jovian satellites following the mission.[2] Voyager’s twin missions also studied 48 natural satellites associated with the planets.[3] Voyager 1's Saturn path was planned to pass within 2,550 miles of Titan.[4]

Current status

Voyager 1 crossed into interstellar space in August 2012.[2] NASA reports that two of its science instruments remain in operation.[2]
